Today mark the first day of a new year but it had been an unusual way for me to usher the new year. Here I am sitting all alone at the waiting gate in Subang airport, waiting to catch a flight back to Singapore, back to my beloved family. Watching the sun sets gives me this nostalgic feeling and inspiration to blog about this meaningful day.
Today I watched my best gal bid farewell to her beloved father. It was indeed painful to witness this occasion yet beautiful because it taught me a very valuable lesson. This man I knew while growing up with my best gal, will have this loving smile whenever I see him. This man who imparts nothing but good values to his 4 children, emphasizing mealtimes with family as the most important agenda for the day. This man whom often I see my friend jumps up to him for a hug and cuddle without a particular reason, even up to our 20's.
He had lived his life to the fullest, smiling to each and everyone who crossed path with him, with his gentle eyes and embracing handshake whenever you take his hands, he will, not with one but both hands. He had been a loving husband, doted father and treasured by the ones who knew him. I'm certain we all have but one thought, that he was a great man.
It's not difficult for me to write this because this is what I remember of him all my years of growing up.
There's no new year resolution for me, just like the years before. But perhaps I'd like to try living my coming days to the fullest, without any regrets, cherish each waking day as it is the most precious gift, to be granted another day with my loved ones, expressing my innermost sincere smile to each that crosses my path, to embrace and hug the ones I love, to impart good values to my children, to remember the significance of family meal times (as how my mom have brought me up).
I would certainly like to live my life, and to be remembered by, like how this man will be remembered by his loved ones and friends.
May your soul rest in peace Uncle Cheong...
