It all started on the 10th, Aug (Tue) afternoon..
Kaye took a bite of a birdie green cili padi... careless mommy must have dropped one while she was sorting out the cili padis in the morning. Of course she spitted all out immediately and cried because of the heat. She was fine however after sipping 30mls of gripe water mixed with plain water and a piece of biscuit. After dinner she had diarrhea once.. and by 2am fever started.
2days since the first bout of fever, it didn't seem to subside for long and by Thurs morning fever was up to 39.9 degrees! Brought her to nearby GP as her regular PD was closed in the afternoon for Thursdays (as temporary measure). GP doctor diagnosed her with viral infection and gave her paracetamol for kids and kaolin for diarrhea, and ordered no lactose for her for the time being. She's been on soymilk eversince.
Josh had this before when he was 11months old and so I'm aware of how to treat and monitor baby's condition and symptoms. But seeing Kaye's temperature didn't seem to improve by Fri, (her temp even reached up to 40.2degrees!) I called a PD friend and Kaye's regular PD and they suggested urine and blood test. And so I decided to bring Kaye to KK Children Hospital for a thorough check up. Indeed as what the GP doctor diagnose on Wed, Kaye's experiencing viral infection. We came home with similar medicines prescribed by doctor and continued observing her temperature. There was any more purging since the first one on Tue evening so it was paracetamol all the way and occasional sponging. All these while I didn't bother about using the fever pad for kids but I now realised how useful and convenient it is! Kaye didn't like it naturally and tends to pull it out so we applied the pad on her forehead mostly while she's asleep.

By Sat fever pretty much stable with lower temp ranging around 37-38.7degrees.
And by Sun she's all well without fever the entire night before.
Unfortunately the purging came back.
I noticed there was a tiny spot on her right middle finger but never occurred to me it could be a splint or cut. After almost a week of her fever fiesta I was just too consumed with that,
that I didn't make the effort to look more closely of what's going on with her finger.
Tues (17th Oct, a week after her fever ordeal started) and her private was all red and raw from too much purging. My poor baby. Called my PD friend again and asked about the viral infection and persistent diarrhea and she said it could be her tummy's clearing the infection thru purging. Mom and I decided to bar Kaye from diaper altogether. Poor girl was in pain each time she urinates or purge.
Thank goodness she's well acquainted with the potty and so we put her on it almost every half an hour. By evening I took a look on her finger again and there's a red lining along the finger. I used the old method of sterilizing and burning and sterilise again a needle and poked out the tiny brown spot off her fingertip.

Thursday morning and her finger starting to swell abit. Took her to polyclinic and dr. diagnose her finger with cellulitis (infection and inflammation inside the finger). Whatever the term was, doesn't sound good to me at all. She suggested antibiotic treatment immediately to contain the infection and prepared a referral letter to go hospital if her finger condition doesn't show any signs of improvement the next day.
Friday (20th Aug) and it certainly didn't improve after 3doses of antibiotics. Instead, her right hand looked like puff-ied fish! (above photo) I was desperate for solutions and answers that by lunchtime I decided to bring Kaye to KK hospital, yet again :(
Doctor explained to me what seems to be the most assuring conversation I desperately wanted to hear:
~Blood streaming steadily to the finger when she presses the infected finger.
~No signs of fever, meaning infection is not so critical, yet.
~She's bubbly and active
~She's able to grab candy wraps with the infected finger
And she decide an add-on antibiotics to treat the infection.
As much as we parents not in favour with antibiotics on young babies, however in this case whatever helps her, I'm fine with it.
Doctor explained to me about IV jab (intravenous jab) which will be the next step if the infection worsens (which is highly unlikely based on her experience)
The word jab alone explains it all.
The antibiotics will be injected directly into the person's bloodstream, meaning Kaye will have to hospitalised! Definitely not a 'cool' idea..
Antibiotic it is then!

Sat (21st Aug), bless the doctors and antibiotics, Kaye's swollen hand seem to show signs of.. deflation! No more puff-ied hand. Phewhh... Diarrhea persisted but not as frequent compared to the past few days.

And today 27Aug (... here's photos of her current finger condition)
There's a slight redness lining left on the upper part of her hand...
makes me wonder if it was a splint that caused the infection or was it an insect bite???!?
hmmm.....
